Death of Patriotism

It’s official people.Patriotism is dead. Its over. The process which began quite some time ago has been completed by the IPL.Confused?Let me explain.

Patriotism has been dying for quite some time. With the concept of the world becoming a global village, patriotism has been on the vane for quite some time.I mean come on-you could see it.I remember when I was a kid I used to sit and watch India’s cricket matches. Each and every match.EACH AND EVERY BALL.I was afraid to shift my position in the fear that India might lose a wicket. But that was before a man called Sourav Ganguly.Bengal has always been shunted to the side by the western lobby and this man just showed what we can do.Birth of parochialism. This was bound to happen. In a country with 28 goddamn states(very poor in geography…inaccuracy of information regretted) where people of one part have NOTHING in common with the people of another part, this was bound to happen. At first I felt it was only me who lost his patriotism. But then I saw it’s not only me.No-one gives a fuck about this country anymore. But is it without reason that we have become so indifferent??Is it really??NO!!!

We were the ones who believed in INDIA.We were the ones who believed in the sacrifices of Bhagat Singh,Subhash Chandra Bose and the other brave freedom fighters. We dreamt of a better India. An India of equality. We actually believed in those “sovereign,socialist.secular.democratic” crap. Then we found out why our country sucked in the first place.Corruption.CORRUPTION from top to bottom.YEP!!!IN THIS COUNTRY,MONEY TALKS!!But how can you blame the common people??They get paid so less and they have a lot of mouths to feed. The government??Before blaming the governments, remember this:This is a country where our government has to make advertisements to stop female foeticide, infanticide. And yet no equality for girls!!!!How can you blame the government???People say politicians are corrupt.Yes they are.But more than that they are people who have realized that nothing can be done about this fucked-up country. If some one tries to do any good, others will pull them down to their level. And is it just politics??Look at our film industry.Copying movies from the west.Look at our sports.Spending millions on IPL,but not 1 congratulations for world champion Pankaj Advani.YES…we are people who go where there is hype…that’s how a shithole movie like ghajini is a blockbuster and a movie like Mumbai Meri Jaan bites the dust.People blame the brain drain on selfish young people. They say this generation has become selfish.Let me ask them something.WHY THE FUCK SHOULD WE GIVE A DAMN ABOUT INDIA??WHAT THE FUCK HAS IT GIVEN US EXCEPT HARDSHIPS,SHAME,TERROR,RELIGIOUS RIOTS,WAR AND GOD KNOWS WHAT OTHER CRAP??This country is dying. But no,don’t say that!!!Force a smile on your face!!!And say mera bharat mahan.

By the way, nowadays when India plays cricket,I change the channel and watch the ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE.

For quite sometime I've wanted to write something about this IPL crap! But I guess you've done it for me.I mean when people in here are dying out of hunger n poverty n this April heat people like SRK n Preity Zinta are spending millions on stupid cricketers and that too for a handful of matches, winning or losing which hardly mean anything to anyone. And we are supposed to watch that crap on Set Max and earn these bloody Bollywood actors n businessmen some MORE money so that they can buy another goddamn posh apartment in some part of the world where we'd probably never even set foot on.Bloody hell!

I think...anish..what r regretting for??....The IPL, the corruption or the loss of patroitism!!...

ok..if we take patroitism take the 1st position in your hit list...then I think patroitism is still there...its not a person or a living being that it will die..what has happened is that it has changed its form n became less intense. The tym of the legends like bhagat singh, netaji..the political turmoil was intense and more importantly most of them used to think in the same line n had 1 common aim b4 them. so that tym patriotism reached its peak..now its has lessen a bit..and it doesn't mean that not watching INDIA play cricket is against patroitism..we hav grown up n no more a child..we now hav more important jobs to serve to india than watching cricket..its the cricketer's onus to glorify india in cricket..n not spectator's!

n now. if corruption is ur utmost concern...then dude, show me 1 country that doesn't hav corruption!! N writing big things on corruption using pirated softwares..funny hah??...say thanks to corruption!!..n I think...unless
every body becomes Anish..or we get a leader like netaji..its hard to restrict corruption...jaust let it stay as it is..just dont let it lift its head.

n one more thing...you people r blaming IPL...lopk at EPL...it involves more bucks than this IPL tournament...n where..England...I donno whether u'll agree wid me or not.. many people dwell in the pavements n st up banners "We r homeless!!!"....its the real pic behind glamourous England

Very good piece of writing. Its indeed an abashment to reflect that we are a part of a country where corruption is the order of the day... But even after saying so much about how corrupt the politicians are,how many of us actually use the power to vote??? How many of us actually want to enter politics in order to bring about a difference?? We all say that politics is a dirty field and shy away from the topic.. Why?? Coz its easy to criticize something rather than bettering it(or even attempting to better it)...
I don't know whether supporting India(in a cricket match or otherwise) signifies patriotism or not but its true that in recent times being patriotic is considered to be a passe-which again is quite a sad reflection. But can we blame just the new generation for it??? Like u've already mentioned that communal riots have been prevalent in our nation for quite sometime now,so won't it affect the minds of the younger generation???
Am sure this post of yours wasn't intended to start of a revolution but it has definitely been able to evoke a response from the readers and that's where your effort becomes commendable..
And to end on a lighter note,i would say that even though am a Bengali am neither in support of Dada or KKR.. Hope that implies that am patriotic yet not parochial??? lolz.....

@ Soumya,
I don't completely agree with you.. Corruption is one of the main reasons among many which has hindered India's growth... Maybe England has many slum-dwellers but nothing in comparison to the number we'ev in India.... In England the per ca pita income of an average man is much more than that of an Indian... Cummon man, there's no way can u compare a developed country to a developing one.... Maybe corruption is present in every country but its not as wide-spread as its in India....

only 1 way to make politics clean...declare an eligibilty for politicians...the have to be educated....and politics should be treated like any other proffession...then only we can ensure the right people coming to the job....

and do you know why honest people dont join politics??because they will be beaten through cheating and the muscle-power of the corrupt politicians....

Be.The.Change.

I have no reasons to relate cricket to patriotism. I seldom watch cricket, got no opinions on IPL.But, yes. The reason you hate the country is you and me.So let us be.
