The first requirement of being a maverick is that you have to be crazy.Now by crazy I don’t mean lunatic asylum crazy.You have to get ideas and do things which will make people say “You’re Crazy!!!You have lost it!!!You are off your rockers!!!You have lost your marbles!!!”….ok,that’s quite enough..I hope you get the point.In other words you have to be able to dream impossible….and be stupid enough to try it.
The second most important point is you have to be unconventional.You have to do things,others wont dream of doing.Suppose you get an rank 30 in the IIT’s….and you enroll for English honours.YES!!!THAT MUCH CRAZY…TAKE THE UNCONVENTIONAL ROUTE….THATS WHAT A MAVERICK DOES.
Mavericks are born,not made.You can’t become a maverick.Because taking the unconventional route will not strike you unless you are a maverick.People laugh at mavericks because they are different.Mavericks laugh at people because they are all the same.
Last but not the least,A maverick is the very best at what he does.He is the damn best….otherwise in this cut-throat world..he wont survive taking the alternative route.But if you are a maverick,you will be the best.You know why?Because you enjoy what you are doing….the fear of failure disappears from your mind.You give a damn to rules.HELL A MAVERICK PLAYS THE GAME BY HIS OWN RULES.!!!HE REWRITES THE RULES OF THE GAME!!!
There are a lot of mavericks around us.In cricket you see this guy called Virender Sehwag.He hit technique and footwork out of the park for a six.The experts are perplexed.They don’t know how their theories could be wrong.But that’s what a maverick does.He wipes the smirk right off their smug faces.He brings them down from their high horses and prove them wrong.
Another guy is the director Anurag Kashyap.He refused to take the formula masala bollywood route..And he also refused to take the “look-i-am-rituparno-ghosh-and-I-make-intellectual-movies” route as well..It resulted in movies with great cinematic values which have become hugely popular with the masses.
All in all….all I want to say is….MAVERICKS RULE!!!!!ALL HAIL THE REBELS!!!!

Another fine example of a maverick would be someone like Aamir Khan.When all other Bollywood stars are busy campaigning for different political parties he is telling people to not let their votes be bought by corrupt candidates....he rules! :)
another example of maverick is abhishek bachchan...in the age of six packs and 8 packs...he retains his identity and along with madhavan remains one of the rare breed of actors who depend more on acting than on glamour....isnt that right samadrita?
Ok first of all..junior AB would be nothing without the identity of his spectacular wife and dad!Secondly he is a decent actor...but sorry to say he doesn't charm me.And nor has he done anything path-breaking or different from regular Bollywood fare.So Im not sure whether he can be called a maverick!
ok...junior ab has more hits than his wife...and i dnt know if a movie like guru or yuva is average bollywood fare...but at least he hasnt done ghajini....thank god...
I think one Ghajini doesn't mean anything when u think of 1947 Earth,Sarfarosh,Lagaan,Rang de Basanti,Taare Zameen Par and so on and so forth.And as far as AB goes..he has done a lot more crappy movies than Aamir Khan.And another thing...Ghajini might be a B grade flick but Aamir's portrayal of a tormented man seeking revenge for his wife's murder totally deserves an A+.
but to tell the truth none of them are mavericks..neither aamir nor ab jr...because they dont fulfil 1 very important criterion...they didnt break the rules...aamir has evolutionised movies...but he didnt revolutionise them like anurag kashyap...and aamir khan usurped amol gupte's script for taare zaamin par....
Aamir is a maverick among Bollywood actors.That's for sure.But I am not sure about him stealing Amol Gupte's script or whatever.That's not proven.By all means we have gotten proof of Aamir's valuable cinematic knowledge or his dislike for imperfection even before Taare Zameen Par.The way he insisted on shooting the entire Rang de Basanti movie on handicam just as a trial before the actual shooting began can be cited as an example.
The facts that he always keeps a low profile,doesn't believe in cheap publicity and his attempt to do something different from the ordinary are more than enough to earn him the title of a maverick.
no...he still isnt a maverick because he hasnt dared to break free of commercial bollywood...among actors if there are mavericks..they are kay kay menon and abhay deol...vinay pathak and ranvir shorey...
I shoulda said Aamir is a maverick among Bollywood 'stars'.The challenge lies in doing something different even though you are making a commercial movie.And I agree with you on the part about Kay Kay Menon and Ranvir Shorey being mavericks but dunno about what can be said about Abhay Deol n Vinay Pathak.Abhay Deol is still more of a newcomer and Vinay Pathak has played the lead in just one movie so far...they are good actors though.
Anyway can we take a break from this?Let's just say...you are anti-Aamir and I am a BIG fan(for valid reasons).Let's leave it at that!
yeah...this is getting boring...and anyways...would like to let you know...i am not anti aamir....he has done some really good work...and for that i appreciate him...i am just not a fan..but definitely not anti-aamir..
